COOP announce new 'local cause funding' groups.

Each year, Coop welcomes applications from groups and charities for their local cause funding. Applications from groups must fit in with the COOP ethos including their main objectives, Fair access to Food, Fair access to mental wellbeing support and fair access to education and employment for young people.

Over the past year, COOP nationally has supported over 4,500 local groups, raising over £100 million pounds to support their work in the community. This funding is an annual accumulation of funds, raised by members shopping and spending across stores and funeral care.

Every time members spend on selected COOP branded products and services, 2p of every £1 spent goes to a local cause. Charles Causley Trust, Lansen Together and Oriel Ministries are the three successful groups chosen for Launceston's Round 8 funding which runs from October 2022 to October 2023.

COOP members are invited to specify which of the local causes they wish for their funds to support directly online. Each cause will also be present in the COOP Newport store in the coming weeks to talk to customers and members about who they are and what they do, to continue to raise awareness of their group and the support and services that they offer the local community.

Coop Member Pioneer for Launceston, Gemma Massey has said "It is very exciting to welcome our new causes for Round 8. We had an increase in applications this year, it is evident these additional funds really do make a difference to our local groups. I look forward to working closely with each new cause, supporting them through the next year and to continue to build stronger relationships with our local groups and charities moving forward.

Don't forget, applications for next year's funding open again in the spring! "

Coop Store manager Samuel Proctor expressed, “As a store, we love to support our local causes. It was brilliant to see how much funding was raised for our groups last year, so I hope this year will be even better. Coop loves to make a difference within the local community, and it all begins with our members shopping in store and supporting our local causes.”
