Exciting projects for Launceston

There are some exciting projects coming to light this year, future-proofing important town facilities and introducing new assets for the community.

When it was announced that Launceston Leisure Centre at Coronation Park would be closing its doors, the community was both saddened and concerned at the prospect of losing this long-serving town facility.

Thankfully, local businessman Michael Davey came forward to lead a team of people in ensuring the leisure centre would be able to continue running for the foreseeable future. After spending time making improvements to the leisure centre building and securing important funding and support, everybody was delighted when the leisure centre swung open its doors once again on Thursday, 16th February.

Keen swimmers and supporters flocked to the centre, making use of the pool and gym equipment. A spokesperson from the Coronation Park Trust said they are 'delighted' that the leisure centre has been taken forward by the team, and that they 'look forward to working with them in the future for the benefit of our community'.

The events that have unfolded over the last few months have proven that the leisure centre is something that means a great deal to the community. Here at Launceston Life, we're looking forward to seeing the centre go from strength to strength, and continue to provide a much-loved service in the town.

In addition to this, the community recently learnt that a skatepark is planned for the town, which is really exciting news for the young people and skaters of Launceston. The town has been awarded £100,000 from the Cornwall Council Community Infrastructure Levy Fund, while Launceston Town Council and Coronation Park Trust will be providing £50,000 each. That’s £200,000 to spend on installing a brand new skatepark in Coronation Park! The town council will be following a tender process and will soon be consulting with the community - we can’t wait to see how this project unfolds!
