St Mary's Christmas tree festival returns this December

Soak up the magic of Christmas at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, where more than 80 trees lovingly decorated by local charities, community groups, schools and businesses line the ancient aisles of the church until the festival comes to a close on 10th December - time is limited to see this marvellous festive display!

The festival is always something to look forward to in Launceston’s events calendar. It is free to attend, but stewards will be on-hand to take any donations towards the upkeep of the church and to keep it warm for the local community over the winter period.

Organised by Sharron Wormald and Sue Tierney, the aim of the festival is to show a ‘cross section of the community’, while providing a lovely festive event early in December to get people feeling in the spirit of the season. Sharron said: “There is always a huge variety of different trees, because everyone comes in with their own slant on things. We love to see people’s faces when they look at the trees; you can spend as long or as little time looking around as you like.”

Each of the ten days of the festival are run by a team of volunteers who are either stewarding, making teas and coffees, taking donations or welcoming people into the church. Sharron added: “Come and enjoy the church lit up and get in the Christmas spirit!”

The Christmas tree festival will run at St Mary Magdalene’s Church every day, 10am-4pm until Sunday, 10th December. If you would like to offer an hour or two of your time as a volunteer, email musketeer.wormald@gmail.com
