A fortnight in Launceston: Alice tells us about her work experience

By Alice Billing, Launceston Life work experience student from the University of Chichester

After spending two weeks working with the ladies at Launceston Life, not only have I gained a huge amount of experience in the publishing industry, but I have met so many amazing and knowledgeable people who work so hard to make Launceston what it is.

Despite the persistent rain – we wouldn’t have it any other way though – there have been just enough glimpses of summer sun to get us excited for the warmer months and it has been lovely to hear about all the exciting events that we have to look forward to.

During my time here I have been speaking to local businesses about how they feel about our community in Launceston, as well as any exciting developments or events they have coming up. I also spoke to a variety of women and sports teams to help acknowledge the fantastic sportswomen we have in Launceston, celebrate their latest achievements and hopefully inspire a few more people to try something new. It has been fantastic to meet and talk to so many of you!

On Thursday 23rd March, I was lucky enough to join Ellie in attending both a Chamber AGM and the Launceston Community Network Panel meeting to see a different side to the job. It was great to find out more about what goes on behind the scenes in Launceston and how our council is run. Although the council meetings are open to the public, it's not something I have considered attending before, but it really is eye-opening to discover more about the cogs that keep the town afloat, as well as their plans for the future.

It has been lovely to come back to Lanson and see what’s changed, but I cannot thank the Launceston Life team enough for the opportunity to work with them. The experience I have gained whilst getting to work with some incredible women has been fabulous. I look forward to seeing where they will go next!
