If you’re thinking about taking on cycling as a new challenge, Launceston Cycles on Pennygillam Industrial Estate has you covered.
Run by Simon Owens and his trusty team, Launceston Cycles is an incredible shop stocked with everything you could possibly need for cycling and Triathlon, including open water swimming, Surf and SUP boarding. They have also just launched their new e-bike hire service, which means everyone can easily access great quality bikes and quite literally ‘try before you buy’. Whether you simply want to hire an e-bike for a day, week or for several weeks, Launceston Cycles’ fleet of e-bikes are the ideal way to get fit or try out a new activity before committing to it more regularly.
“As 2022 came to a close, and looking back on the year, it’s been another fantastic year of helping people get on their bikes, and so we’ve been looking to increase this in 2023,” Simon explained. “The plans for this year are to push on and help even more people find a love for cycling and to promote the use of e-bikes particularly. They are the way to get back into cycling, and mean you can explore more of our beautiful countryside without the stress and worries of our wonderful but sometimes steep hills!"
Launceston Cycles is also the meeting point for local cycling group Launceston Velo, an inclusive group that welcomes people of all abilities, with a ‘no drop’ policy, meaning nobody gets left behind.
Simon said: “We’re a really friendly, inclusive social community group. If anyone is interested, come and try it for free. You get the first three rides free, and then you pay £12 for the year.
“It’s so important to keep yourself active -it means you will be happier and healthier in mind and body.”
Launceston Velo meets at Launceston Cycles on Sundays at 8.30am, Wednesdays at 6pm (Spring/Summer only), and Thursdays at 9.30am.
