Launceston donates in its thousands for the Forest for Launceston

After a lengthy campaign and appeal for donations, we did it Launceston!

The Forest for Launceston project has secured over £6,000 of funding to take those first steps in bringing the vision to life.

Working with local organisations such as Launceston Community Development Trust, the Forest for Cornwall and ourselves here at Launceston Life, this volunteer-led project has been putting together a woodland management plan for the forest. The project will be split into two phases - phase one, to clear the area which will be home to the forest and make it safe for public use; and phase two, to introduce different plant species by creating a woodland/meadow mix.

Also included in this new, natural space will be wheelchair-friendly paths and a picnic area, as well as offering a welcome to ALL residents of Launceston - from its people to its wildlife.

Thanks to you, the money raised will be spent on things like benches, paths, dormouse nest boxes, bug hotels and much more - ensuring the Forest for Launceston is a thriving natural spot.

This isn’t just about turning an unused space into a woodland for the community to enjoy - although it is a big part of it. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to improve Launceston’s biodiversity, promote the use of the outdoors to benefit the wellbeing of the community and introduce more opportunities for people to socialise with one another while creating a positive impact on the environment. It is hoped this will be the first of many new outdoor open spaces in the Launceston area.

Launceston is lucky to have been presented with this opportunity, and we can’t wait to see how the team progresses in this project and making a fantastic contribution to the community.
